Public Works

A portfolio of public spaces that feel like home.

Public Works

Designer Brianne Bishop created playful, unexpected, and sophisticated interiors in the public spaces of Avra, a luxury rental building.
The color scheme was a mix of warm and cool with some punchy color on banquettes and in seating areas. The goal was to create a surprise around every corner. In the 20th floor lounge area, Bishop created intimate seating areas with eye-level lighting. Upholstery fabric by Designtex. Flooring and carpet by Shaw Floors. An outdoor terrace area is furnished with tables and chairs from Brown Jordan.
Right top: The team used a large-scale mural wallpaper by Phillip Jeffries to bring interest to the entry’s soaring walls with ultrahigh ceilings.
Right bottom: A striking yellow-and-slate-blue banquette is covered in durable fabric by Designtex. Flooring by Shaw Floors. All paint throughout by Benjamin Moore. Wallcoverings throughout by Maharam, Pierre Frey, Wolf-Gordon, and Phillip Jeffries.

Philip Sassano of The Design Coach collaborated with master Chicago bar builder John Wary for this communal space for a client in Geneva Lake, Wisconsin. The client, who owns several prominent establishments in Chicago, wanted an old-school, hyphenate Chicago-style pub with a clubby atmosphere. Geneva Lake has historically been a summer playground for Chicago business leaders, so it was a natural connection to create this pub where family and friends can gather. Sassano used a pressed-tin ceiling over the bar, and glowing globe pendants from Visual Comfort add turn-of-the-century appeal. Wallcoverings by Phillip Jeffries.

If you are looking for a beautiful place to stay in Saugatuck, along Michigan’s Art Coast, you can’t do much better than the historic Wickwood Inn. Originally built in 1937, Wickwood was the home of Frank Wicks, the mayor of Saugatuck. In 1981, it was purchased and opened as an inn, and in 2021, it was purchased by Shea Soucie and Martin Horner of Soucie Horner Design Collective, opening a new chapter in its rich history. The team proceeded to build upon decades of tradition, while adding their own sense of style and experience in interior design. Complete with beautifully detailed aesthetics, highly personal service, and delicious food, Wickwood is a place to relax, refresh, and renew in one of eleven romantic guest rooms and suites that feature sumptuous bedding, luxurious amenities, antique furnishings, original art, and marble en suite bathrooms.
Left: In one of the guest bedrooms, teal pillows add a pop of vibrant color. Draperies by Cowtan & Tout, rug by Shiir through Holly Hunt, and paint by Benjamin Moore.
