Working Knowledge
Going to work is a pleasure when your spaces are filled with color, texture, and a touch of sparkle.
When legacy family candy business Burke Candy opened its first stand alone retail store, they tapped Amy Carman to create a one-of-a-kind space to showcase their signature gold-foil-wrapped confections. Carman got to know Burke’s founder, Julia Burke, and discovered that she has a love of gardens. Together they chose a verdant green accented by bright, brass shelving and accents. The back room is designed to hold chocolate tastings. The glossy cabinets are in Benjamin Moore’s Cilantro, and in the tasting room, the wallcovering is Chiavi Segrete by Cole & Son, with barstools by Serena & Lily, through John Rosselli & Associates. In this conference room for WorkLife in New York, Artistic Tile’s Flute Deco Nero marble tile is used on the walls, offering a geometric design that complements the space. The Nero Marquina Extra marble slab base enhances this effect with its dramatic black backdrop and subtle, elegant veining. Together, these elements form a dynamic and cohesive visual narrative.
Designer Lisa Wolfe’s husband, Mark DiGanci, wanted a larger space for his design/build firm DesignStudio24, so they moved into a 1969 commercial building in the Chicago suburbs. Together they created an inspiring space that is a blend of midcentury style and modern luxury. In five months, they gutted an entire wing of the building to create an open layout along with updated lobby and brand new bathrooms. In the reception/lounge area, Phillip Jeffries wallcovering is the backdrop for a comfortable-yet-polished sofa covered in fabric by Romo, and lighting by Visual Comfort, through CAI Designs.
